Xfinity users reminded to be aware of phone scams

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a Xfinity phone scam.

People previously targeted reported receiving phone calls from scammers impersonating Xfinity representatives needing personal and financial information. In one instance, a victim was pressured into providing sensitive information, which resulted in unauthorized charges.

Another phone scam involves scammers spoofing Xfinity’s real customer service number to provide a fake “XFI-750” deal, ultimately tricking victims into paying with Target gift cards before demanding more money.

Remember these things to protecting yourself:

  • Xfinity will never ask for payments via gift cards.
  • Never share personal or financial details over the phone.
  • Verify any claims by contacting the company directly.
  • Hang up if you feel pressured or suspect fraud.
