Sumter County officials declare local state of emergency in preparation for tropical storm

Sumter County Officials declared a local state of emergency in anticipation of a tropical storm this weekend.

This storm system, which has been designated as Potential Tropical Cyclone Four, is currently located over Cuba and is traveling northwestward. It could form into Tropical Storm Debby by Saturday, according to a recent report from the National Hurricane Center.

The main impact from the storm in The Villages will likely be heavy rainfall and strong winds.

Gov. Ron DeSantis issued a state of emergency earlier today for 54 of Florida’s 67 counties, including Marion, Lake and Sumter.
