Just before 5 a.m. on Aug. 3, Ocala Police Department (OPD) responded to the 1600 block of SW 17th St. after receiving a call about a human skull found in the woods behind a warehouse. Officers were directed to the area and found skeletal remains. The remains were initially found by homeless people when they were looking in the woods for a place to sleep. When they saw the remains, they called 911.
Major Crimes detectives, the Forensics Unit and the medical examiner responded to the scene. It’s believed that the remains have been there for several months, and there does not seem to be any foul play. According to Florida Police Scanner, OPD detectives are currently investigating the incident.
