In 2018, the Ocala Police Department (OPD) launched a Heroin/Opioid Amnesty Program and help people get off these addictive drugs. If someone who’s addicted to drugs seeks OPD’s help, they’ll check them into a licensed treatment facility free of charge.
Since 2018, OPD responded to over 1,000 overdose incidents which resulted in the deaths of over 150 citizens. Since the launch of the amnesty program, over 475 people have participated.
