Omer “Nick” Caron, 88 of Gainesville passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2021. He was born March 2, 1933 in Fall River, Massachusetts to William and Emma LaForest Caron.
He proudly served in the US Air Force Feb.1952-1956 during the Korean War, and was stationed in the Philippines. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Counsel #347, where he was past Grand Knight and member of the honor guard in Whitman, MA. It was Nick’s idea to have the first Thanksgiving Dinner for the elderly when he was grand Knight of the council. The tradition has continued for years.
Nick was an Avid Boston sports fan.
After retirement Nick and Ann Marie moved to The Villages in Florida. They were members of The St Marks Catholic Church where Nick was an usher.
Nick was very involved in the Operation Shoe Box for veterans in the Villages and was a member of Massachusetts Bay Club.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ann Marie Caron; daughter, Betty Bradley; son, Kenneth John Caron; brother, Donald Caron; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Thursday, July 8, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME, 404 North Main St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, July 9, 2021, at 9:30 a.m. at St Augustine Catholic Church, 1738 W University Ave. Gainesville. Burial will follow in Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell at 12:30 p.m. with military honors.
