The commissions of Lady Lake and Fruitland Park met recently to examine their respective budgets and planned property tax rates.
Fruitland Park commissioners debated a proposed budget that totaled a little over $13.56 million. A property tax of $3.9134 per $1,000 of assessed property, the same as the previous three years, helps to fund the budget. The rate is $3.8365, which is 2% higher than the rollback rate. This equates to over $783 in property taxes for a $200,000 home.
A budget hearing will be held at 6 p.m. on Sept. 23.
The recommended property tax rate in Lady Lake was set at $3.3962 per $1,000 of assessed value by the town commission. It’s a tax hike since it’s 3.24 percent higher than the rollback rate of $3.2896, which would yield the same amount of property tax revenue as last year. It contributes to a $29.16 million budget proposal.
At a public hearing slated for Sept. 20 at Lady Lake Town Hall, 409 Fennell Blvd., residents can voice their opinions on the town’s budget and proposed tax rate.
