On June 12, Whitney Boylston, director of the Lake County Office of Animal Services, will mark her fourth anniversary with the organization. She enjoys not only assisting citizens through the services provided by the Lake County Animal Shelter, but she is also an animal lover in her own right. Boylston spends her time at home with her three dogs, four cats and two Guineafowls when she isn’t fighting to protect the local wildlife.
As her anniversary approaches, Boylston spoke with The Villages Daily Sun about why she enjoys her job and the significance of community support when it comes to animal rescue. She also talked about the shelter’s new TNVR (trap-neuter-vaccine-return) program. Starting in June, Every Day is Caturday will be observed as a humane and proactive way to decrease the number of free-roaming cats. All cats in the program will be spayed or neutered, as well as receive rabies and combination vaccine, as well as be dewormed and ear-tipped.
The program is being held in conjunction with a free TNVR session called Caturday School, which was held on June 20 and covered the basics of trap-neuter-vaccinate-return, trap setting and methodologies in community cat management.
