Residents of the Village Mira Mesa were concerned Monday morning when they saw a Villages Community Watch van in a hole at the corner of Del Mar Rd. and Ventura Ave. Some believed it was a sinkhole, but it turned out to be a 10-inch water pipe burst. The incident occurred shortly before 11 a.m.
Water service was temporarily shut down as the Community Development Districts made the necessary repairs. The CDD also issued a boil-water notice. Everything was fixed, the van was safely removed from the hole and the water service was up and running again by 3 p.m. that day. The boil-water notice was still in effect for a few days after the event until the bacteriological tests from the Utilities Department showed that the water was safe enough to drink.
And while the hole that the pipe made is filled in, there are still safety cones around it for residents’ protection.
