Early June 5, a transport van was involved in a crash at the intersection of S Pine Ave. and SW Fort King St. The van was delivering multiple kenneled dogs of all sizes to various owners across the country. The van was inoperable due to the damage, and the transport drivers had no other form of transportation.
A plan was devised, spearheaded by Ocala Police Department (OPD) Sergeant Pitman and Lieutenant Uptagraft. With the help of their A-Squad midnight shift, OPD was able to locate a hotel that could accommodate both humans and the 17 dogs. Next, a motorcade of patrol cars, including a negotiator ambulance, was assembled to transport them all to the local hotel safely until they could procure transportation the following day.
No one involved in the crash was seriously injured, and all the dogs appeared to be fine, according to Florida Police Scanner.
