Sumter County residents who wish to discard any hazardous waste may do so on Saturday, Jan. 28 as a part of the county’s amnesty day.
In the past, the event has proven highly successful among residents. Last year, the county collected 800 pounds of propane cylinders, and disposed of 1,480 pounds of solid waste. In addition, 40,118 pounds of recycled material was collected, along with 11,318 pounds of hazardous waste, which was incinerated.
People may bring waste to Lake Okahumpka Park or the Sumter County Fairgrounds from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.
A list of material accepted and unaccepted can be found on the county’s website: https://sumtercountyfl.gov/1236/Household-Electronics-Hazardous-Waste-Mo
In addition, the website includes instruction on how to properly package and transport chemicals for disposal.
