The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office will kick off their annual bicycle collection event on Dec. 2 at the Lake Miona Recreation Center. Donation hours will be from 8 a.m. until noon.
Volunteers will collect donations at the north end of the parking lot, where they will also have a makeshift repair shop. All bicycles will be cleaned, undergo any needed minor repairs, have tires inflated and test ridden before being distributed by the sheriff’s office during the holiday season.
The event began nearly two decades ago after members of The Villages cycling community began fixing up used bicycles for children and adults in the area.
For anyone interested in donating, but unable to attend the event, it is possible to drop off used bicycles at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office at County Road 466 and Morse Boulevard.
If you have additional questions about the event, send an email to David Lawrece at daveridj@gmail.com or call the sheriff’s office at 352-689-4604
