Mulberry Dog Park recently added a new shaded structure for owners to relax under, which has received much applause from local visitors and dog-walkers. The park is off Belle Meade Circle adjacent to the fitness trail near the Village of Springdale.
After a long wait, it was reopened. Overall, the park is separated into different areas for small and large dogs.
Paul Parkinson, of the Village of Piedmont, was seen there shortly after the reopening, enjoying the park with his dog Jerry, a 4-year-old black Labrador who loves chasing his ball.
“This place is great. It’s close by and gives him a chance to run,” says Parkinson.
Dogs weighing less than 30 pounds are kept in the small dog area, and the large area is for dogs above that.
John Bakita, of the Village of Piedmont, was enjoying beautiful weather at the park with his dog, Wrigley, a 5-year-old Shih Tzu and bichon frise mix.
He is delighted with the park’s reopening.
“New pavilion offers much-needed shade for dog owners with water available for the dogs. Wrigley likes it, but he gets tired pretty quick. I ran him a bit when we first got here, but now, it’s too hot for him,” he said as Wrigley settled down on a bench beside Bakita, in the shade.
Soon, Wrigley was joined by Sam, a very energetic 8-year-old cairn terrier, and his owners, Jack and Gae Burns, of the Village of Country Club Hills.
Sam was demanding the couple to toss his frisbees, which he rarely caught. The Burnses are also very pleased with the pavilion and the park area.
The park is open from 7 a.m. to the late evening, and dogs must be kept on a leash. Owners are supposed to clean up their waste, with bag stations and trash cans provided.
